About The Position

Goodwill Industries of New Mexico is seeking an enthusiastic, career-minded Retail Associate to assist customers and support its mission of providing skills training, job placement, and social services to New Mexicans. Goodwill is a second-chance employer that offers cross-training in different departments and advancement opportunities. The position involves customer service, accepting and processing donations, sorting merchandise, stocking the sales floor, and operating a cash register. The role is paid $13 per hour, with 38 hours guaranteed per week.

Requirements

Pass a criminal background check and drug test.

Regular use of hands and fingers for handling or feeling, reaching with hands and arms, and seeing, talking, and hearing; frequent sitting and walking; ability to stand for eight or more hours if required; occasional stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and lifting or moving up to 50 pounds.
High school diploma or GED preferred.
One year of retail work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience preferred.

Responsibilities

Follow Goodwill’s attendance and punctuality policies.
Provide excellent customer service and respond courteously to customer questions and issues, contacting a supervisor when needed.
Maintain confidentiality of privileged information.
Maintain a professional appearance and a friendly, cheerful, and courteous demeanor.
Process customer transactions, including accepting cash and credit card payments, counting money, providing correct change and receipts, and wrapping or bagging merchandise.
Verify cash-register balances against the currency in the register.
Keep the work area organized and the store clean, including shelves, counters, and displays.
Set up sales displays and organize and arrange furniture and merchandise to promote sales.
Stock racks, counters, and displays with donated merchandise.
Transport boxes, bins, and crates to work areas; distribute items and salvage to appropriate areas; and dispose of unsalable items.
Process and price incoming donations, including wares, books, shoes, and furniture.
Maintain production levels and document the number of items or bins processed accurately and on time.
Review donations for quality and route items to the appropriate areas for further distribution.
Accept and record donations appropriately, and keep the donations area secured to protect donations from misuse.
Operate material-handling equipment.
Attend and participate in regularly scheduled staff meetings.
Observe customer behavior and report suspicious behavior to a supervisor or security.
Perform other incidental and related duties as assigned.
