About The Position

The Retail Associate serves as a front-line representative and first point of contact for the public at Hoċokata Ti and the SMSC. The role provides friendly, knowledgeable customer service and accurate information about the Cultural Center, museum, and tourism. It supports retail operations, including gift shop opening and closing, sales and transactions, cash reporting, and inventory security. The associate may also provide support in the Hoċokata Ti Library and at the front desk, and help create seasonal visual merchandising displays.

Requirements

1–2 years of experience in retail or guest service.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office and POS systems.
Excellent public speaking skills.
Excellent customer service skills.
Ability to handle and lift up to 40 lbs. as needed.

Nice To Haves

Knowledge of Dakota history and/or Native American culture gained through coursework.

Responsibilities

Perform gift shop opening and closing procedures.
Operate the POS system and process merchandise sales, ticketing, credit, debit, and cash transactions.
Ensure daily cash reports are accurate and complete.
Provide visitor reception and share information through SMSC outreach brochures and other media.
Provide current, accurate information about the Cultural Center and answer general museum and tourism questions.
Assist with creating visual merchandising displays incorporating seasonal themes.
Monitor the retail area's physical condition and appearance and ensure inventory security.
Provide support as necessary in the Hoċokata Ti Library and at the front desk.
Perform other duties as assigned.
