About The Position

The Restorative Practices Support Coordinator will support school administration in the implementation of restorative practices. This includes providing direct services to staff, students, and families through the operation of student responsibility rooms and the facilitation of restorative interventions that promote a positive school climate.

Requirements

  • Valid Michigan teaching certification with a minimum of five years of successful classroom experience.
  • Successful experience supporting students with significant behavioral needs.
  • Knowledge of social-emotional learning curricula, accommodations, and differentiated instruction.
  • Theoretical and practical understanding of restorative practices, conflict resolution, and de-escalation, with a commitment to ongoing professional development.
  • Familiarity with research-based practices in behavioral science, including positive behavioral supports, restorative practices, mindfulness, Zones of Regulation, and other SEL strategies.
  • Proficiency in student data management systems (PowerSchool, PMT, SWISS) and ability to analyze and report data to support student behavior intervention planning.
  • Strong knowledge of current educational research related to restorative practices and a willingness to pursue advanced training.
  • Excellent communication skills (written and oral) and the ability to prepare reports for administration.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with administrators, teachers, families, students, and community partners.
  • Problem-solving skills, sound judgment, and the ability to make decisions aligned with district policies.
  • Ability to remain calm and effective in crisis situations while maintaining confidentiality.
  • Experience using student achievement, perception, and interest data to design and implement action plans that improve student outcomes.

Nice To Haves

  • Three to five years of coaching experience in a school setting preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide a structured environment for restorative practices, circles, and behavioral interventions.
  • Support students who disrupt the learning environment by facilitating reflection, restorative planning, and harm repair.
  • Respond to staff referrals and assess the appropriate restorative response.
  • Communicate with parents/guardians to engage them in restorative meetings when appropriate.
  • Share outcomes of restorative processes with participants, parents, administration, and staff, and ensure follow-up is completed.
  • Collaborate with administration and staff to help students resolve conflicts using restorative approaches.
  • Partner with school teams to address students' social, emotional, and behavioral needs.
  • Work with special education case managers to design, implement, and monitor behavioral interventions, including restorative community service opportunities.
  • Consult with staff to support both academic and behavioral success.
  • Train staff in restorative practices, dialogue facilitation, and behavioral intervention strategies as needed.
  • Collect and analyze student data to develop and support Positive Behavior Intervention Plans (PBIPs).
  • Collaborate with teachers and administration to create supportive classroom learning environments.
  • Communicate with families regarding student behavior, progress, and restorative plans.
  • Coordinate with community agencies to provide additional support to students and families.
  • Serve as a resource on research-based behavioral interventions, restorative practices, and SEL strategies.
  • Build staff capacity to implement effective instructional and behavioral practices.
  • Develop cycles of support and accountability for addressing student behavioral needs.
  • Teach and model restorative practices and circles with students and staff.
  • Collaborate with School Administration and School Resource Officers on school climate and safety concerns.
