About The Position

This position involves receiving and following schedules and instructions from a supervisor, adhering to established policies and procedures, and performing focused patient interviews to identify needs. The role requires assessing physiological and psychosocial changes, collecting and interpreting data, planning patient care outcomes, and implementing interventions according to established standards. The Respiratory Therapist will also adhere to emergency, safety, and infection control procedures, promote good interpersonal communication, and report changes in patient respiratory status to the appropriate personnel. Maintaining confidentiality of resident care information and assuming administrative responsibility for assigned duties are also key aspects of this role. This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Requirements

  • Must possess, as a minimum, an Associate Degree from an accredited school.
  • Must be a Graduate of a respiratory care program.
  • Minimum of one (1) year respiratory experience in an acute and/or subacute unit preferred.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from managers and employees.
  • Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical situations.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Current Respiratory Care Practitioner verification license for the state in which he/she practices (if applicable).
  • Must hold a current CPR/BLS and ACLS certifications.
  • Must have knowledge of office machines and equipment.

  • Bachelor of Science degree in the health care field preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Receive and follow schedule/instructions from supervisor and as outlined in established policies and procedures.
  • Adhere to established policies and procedures of the facility.
  • Perform focused interview to identify specific patients’ needs.
  • Assess signs and symptoms indicating physiologic and psychosocial changes in the patient’s condition.
  • Collect, analyze, and interpret data and information from health care members and document actual and/or potential diagnoses.
  • Plan for outcomes of care for assigned patients.
  • Perform interventions according to identified priorities, plan of care, and hospital policies and patient care outcome standards.
  • Adhere to emergency, safety, and infection control procedures of the facility.
  • Promote and participate in activities to facilitate good interpersonal communications.
  • Report changes in the patient’s respiratory status to the Director/Supervisor of Respiratory Care Services, the nurse primarily responsible for the patient, and the physician, as needed, and prior to leaving the facility.
  • Develop and maintain a good working rapport with inter-department personnel, as well as other departments within the facility.
  • Agree not to disclose resident’s protected health information and promptly report suspected or known violations of such disclosure to the Administrator.
  • Assume the administrative authority, responsibility, and accountability of performing the assigned duties of this position.
  • Maintain the confidentiality of all resident care information including protected health information.
  • Report known or suspected incidents of unauthorized disclosure of such information.
