About The Position
The Respiratory Therapist provides respiratory care to patients. This PRN Nights position involves performing all aspects of respiratory care, including diagnostic tests of the cardio-pulmonary system, administering medications and treatments, and preparing electronic documentation. The role also includes maintaining competencies, responding to emergencies, performing quality control on equipment, and participating in performance improvement activities.
Requirements
- Graduate of an accredited AMA Respiratory Care Program
- Possession of current RCP State of Texas License
- Possession of current CRT / RRT Certification from NBRC
- Must have active healthcare provider Basic Life Support on hire (ARC or AHA); however, must have AHA Healthcare Provider BLS within 60 days of hire.
- AHA ACLS must be completed within 60 days of hire or transfer into role.
- AHA PALS must be completed within 60 days of hire or transfer into role if covering Pedi.
- AHA NRP must be completed within 60 days of hire or transfer into role if covering NICU.
Nice To Haves
- Some experience in hospital respiratory care or related area.
- Renewal required every 5 years unless grandfathered prior to July 1, 2002
Responsibilities
- Performs all aspects of respiratory care to include diagnostic test of the cardio-pulmonary system according to policy and procedures under the direction of the Medical Director, Department Director, Coordinator/Team Leader
- Responds to emergency situations
- Maintains competencies to ensure compliance with all regulatory statutes
- Administers medication and treatments in accordance with established policies
- Reports identified unusual patient conditions/reaction to immediate supervisor
- Prepares electronic documentation of all work/service rendered and provides written/verbal report to oncoming staff
- Performs quality control on all Respiratory Care equipment to include I-STAT blood gas analyzers
- Utilizes resources efficiently and effectively
- Maintains safe environment
- Addresses patient population-specific needs
- Participates in Performance Improvement activities
