About The Position

Works under the direct supervision of a Respiratory Therapist holding a Licensure – Mandatory Status to perform Respiratory Care services as prescribed by the ordering physician. Provides direct and indirect patient care by assisting, supporting, and following established protocols, processes, and procedures within the department as defined or mandated by State and Federal law. The position requires current enrollment in an accredited Respiratory Care Program and Kentucky Limited Mandatory Certification (Student). This student certification is no longer valid upon graduation, after which employees may no longer work as a Student Respiratory Technician.

Requirements

Current enrollment in an accredited Respiratory Care Program.
Kentucky Limited Mandatory Certification (Student) through the Kentucky Board of Respiratory Care.
Work experience: none required.

Responsibilities

Under direct supervision, set up and operate various types of respiratory equipment.
Participate in processing, cleaning, changing, and sterilization of equipment according to departmental policies.
Under direct supervision, troubleshoot and perform routine procedures using respiratory equipment.
Under direct supervision, use different respiratory modalities to dispense inhalation medications in the treatment of disease or illness.
Record all patient care procedures according to organizational and hospital policies.
Display knowledge and professionalism in emergency situations.
Maintain assigned areas in a clean and orderly fashion.
Demonstrate knowledge and use of patient assessment skills.
Exhibit a willingness to learn all aspects of Respiratory Care.
Attend in-services on new equipment to learn new procedures.
Perform other major or minor duties that may be required; specific functions may change from time to time.
