This position is responsible for providing academic and vocational assessments, teaching basic academic subjects to students requiring remedial work, and using special help programs to improve scholastic level. The role involves delivering instruction of core and elective subjects, applying lesson techniques designed for remedial students as required by Florida Sunshine Standards, and developing/adjusting curriculum accordingly. The specialist will confer with counselors and teaching staff, implement instructional strategies based on individual learning styles, and foster the development of IAP goals. They will administer measurement tools to assess progress, utilize gender-responsive classroom management techniques, and administer required standardized state or Pace testing. The role includes preparing individualized lesson plans and examinations, completing evaluations, networking with community resources, monitoring support services of outside agencies, and participating in parent conferences and care review meetings. Recommendations for improving academic delivery, communication of care management issues, and creating partnerships with outside agencies are also key responsibilities. The specialist will adhere to budget guidelines, manage resources wisely, coordinate outside resources, conduct intake interviews, develop individualized transition and placement plans, coordinate and evaluate volunteer tutors and support services, and plan/supervise extracurricular activities. Miscellaneous duties as assigned.
