About The Position

The Residential Living Specialist will be responsible for assisting with the day-to-day operations of the Pembroke Transitional Housing Program in accordance with Eagle Star Housing policies and procedures. Provides direct care services to the homeless population. Pembroke Transitional Housing program is a 16-bed shelter responsible for vulnerable homeless populations located in East Pembroke, NY. It is a 24/7 program with required staffing on all shifts. Candidate must have flexibility in shift availability.

Requirements

  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general procedures and policies.
  • Ability to write reports.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers and residents.
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as proportions and percentages.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and report to supervisor.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office.

Responsibilities

  • Assisting the House Manager with resident admissions, admission material and resident discharges.
  • Leading by example and practicing good judgement and boundaries.
  • Assisting with meal preparation and menu planning.
  • Respecting and maintaining resident confidentiality and demonstrating a positive and caring attitude toward all residents and staff.
  • Assisting the House Manager with coordination of resident appointments and transport.
  • Performing the daily operations of the TH program including the processing of intakes and referrals for admission into the house as identified in shift responsibilities list.
  • Making sure the environment is safe and residents are adhering to house rules.
  • Practicing and promoting positive peer and resident relations.
  • Communicating with other care providers and referral sources to increase the understanding of residents problems and assets.
  • Participating in and promoting quality improvement and maintaining clear communications with the Housing Manager regarding house needs and incidents.
  • Maintaining a continuous physical presence within the house during working hours and responding to request for assistance.
  • Taking the phone when not in office.
  • Identifying opportunities for improvement in all aspects of the house.
  • Assisting with implementation of policies and programs.
  • Functioning as a member of an interdependent team and effectively communicating with residents and visitors to resolve inquiries and responding in a timely manner to inform the Housing Manager of operational issues within area of responsibility.
  • Identifying and promptly addressing unsafe practices and other safety issues in the house.
  • Reporting incidents and vital information to the Housing Manager.
  • Participating in all fire safety, infection control and other mandatory training.
  • Accepting responsibility for personal professional development and demonstrating desire for personal growth.
  • Performing other duties as assigned.
