About The Position

The Residential Helper rides on a vehicle and assists a Driver in providing prompt, courteous, and complete waste removal services to customers on a designated residential route. The Helper safely loads waste, carries bags and containers to the vehicle for disposal, and guides the Driver from the ground when maneuvering the vehicle. The position also helps maintain the cleanliness of the vehicle, route, and work area. The Helper operates the vehicle’s packing and lifting mechanisms, performs vehicle inspections, monitors waste for unacceptable materials, and follows applicable safety policies and procedures. The role requires courteous interactions with customers, dispatchers, and others to help ensure route service is timely and professional. Other job-related duties may be assigned.

Responsibilities

Ride on the vehicle and assist the Driver while servicing customers on a designated route.
Operate the packing mechanism and various levers and handles to activate lifting and loading mechanisms.
Clean waste from the packer blade and truck body on each disposal trip; spray and clean the hopper and truck, if applicable.
Perform complete pre- and post-operation vehicle inspections in accordance with company policy and report safety issues on standard reports.
Interact courteously with customers, dispatchers, and others to help ensure routes are serviced in a timely and professional manner.
Continuously monitor waste for evidence of unacceptable waste.
Clean areas around accidental waste spills while adhering to applicable safety standards and policies.
Maintain required departmental productivity standards to ensure customers are serviced in a timely and efficient manner.
Follow all required safety policies and procedures.
Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
