Residential Helper I
About The Position
The Residential Helper rides on a vehicle and assists a Driver in providing prompt, courteous, and complete waste removal services to customers on a designated residential route. The Helper safely loads waste, carries bags and containers to the vehicle for disposal, and assists the Driver in maneuvering the vehicle by directing the Driver from the ground. The role also helps maintain the cleanliness of the vehicle, route, and work area. The position involves operating vehicle packing and lifting mechanisms, inspecting the vehicle before and after operation, monitoring waste for unacceptable materials, cleaning equipment and spills, and interacting professionally with customers and dispatchers. Helpers must follow safety policies and productivity standards and may perform other job-related duties as assigned. The listed pay range is $17.55 to $24.15; actual pay depends on the locality in which the employee is hired. Eligible employees may elect to participate in the benefits described in the posting.
Responsibilities
- Ride on the vehicle to assist the Driver while servicing customers on a designated route.
- Operate the packing mechanism and various levers and handles to activate the lifting and loading mechanism.
- Clean waste from the packer blade and truck body on each disposal trip; spray and clean the hopper and truck, if applicable.
- Perform complete pre- and post-operation vehicle inspections in accordance with Company policy and report safety issues on standard reports.
- Interact courteously with customers, dispatchers, and others to help ensure routes are serviced in a timely and professional manner.
- Continuously monitor waste for evidence of unacceptable waste.
- Clean the area around accidental waste spills in accordance with applicable safety standards and policies.
- Maintain required department productivity standards to ensure customers are serviced in a timely and efficient manner.
- Follow all required safety policies and procedures.
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
