About The Position

The City of Rockingham is seeking a Residential Design Officer to assess applications and provide specialist advice on Residential Design Code variations. This role involves preparing reports for approval or refusal, and negotiating with applicants and other stakeholders to ensure consistent application of the Residential Design Code principles. The position is part of the Building Services team and is located in Rockingham, WA.

Requirements

• Comprehensive knowledge of the Residential Design Codes of Western Australia.
• Excellent interpersonal and negotiation skills.
• Attention to detail.
• Well-developed verbal and written communication skills.
• Confidence and consistency in decision making.
• A WA “C” class driver’s license.
• A recognized urban planning qualification such as a Bachelor Degree, Graduate Certificate in Development Planning or similar, or a qualification appropriate under the Building Services (Registration) Act 2011.

Nice To Haves

• Previous work experience as a building surveyor.
• Previous work experience as an urban planner.
• Previous work experience as a shire liaison for a building company.

Responsibilities

• Assessing applications for Residential Design Code variations.
• Providing specialist advice to internal and external customers for Residential Design Code variations.
• Preparing written reports for the approval or refusal of proposed variations.
• Undertaking negotiation with applicants, ratepayers, and other interested parties to ensure consistent application of Residential Design Code principles.

• Salary of $102,707 per annum (pro rata for part time).
