About The Position
Volunteers of America–Greater New York is seeking a part-time Residential Counselor for an overnight position in Perth Amboy, New Jersey. The Residential Counselor assists with case management and implementation of consumers’ treatment plans, providing direct care that may include transportation, support, teaching, crisis intervention, and case management.
Requirements
- Meet one of the listed qualification pathways: a bachelor’s degree in a mental health, health, or other appropriate human-services discipline; a registered nurse license; a combination of college education and related work or life experience totaling four years; a practical nurse license plus two years of related work or life experience; or a high school diploma or equivalent plus four years of related work or life experience.
- Have at least one year of related work or life experience if the four-year college degree does not meet the stated subject requirements.
- Have a valid driver’s license and a clean driving record for at least 24 months.
Responsibilities
- Supervise or support residents on site, including teaching, behavioral modeling, assisting with activities of daily living, and other tasks.
- Communicate observations and information about residents to the program manager, RN, DDD case manager, and other treatment team members.
- Supervise, organize, and support recreational and socialization activities.
- Provide transportation.
- Assist consumers with self-administration of medication.
- Provide residential counseling.
- Provide crisis intervention services, excluding crisis intervention counseling.
- Participate in developing individual habilitation plans and completing other required assessments.
- Participate in individual service coordination activities.
- Document observations, information, and services provided to residents in progress notes.
- Cooperate with Volunteers of America and/or State of New Jersey Division staff during inspections or investigations.
