About The Position

Equinox is a non-profit human services organization in the Capital Region with over 40 years of experience helping individuals move towards recovery, healing, and independence. Equinox is Albany County’s primary provider of services for victims of domestic violence, offering safety, support, assistance, and tools for victims and their dependent children to escape abusive situations. The Domestic Violence Programs are available to all victims regardless of gender, age, ethnicity, or sexual orientation.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • One-year human services experience (Bachelor’s Degree will be substituted in lieu of experience requirement).
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Access and Outlook.
  • Ability to negotiate stairs.
  • Ability to lift and carry a minimum of 25 pounds.
  • Ability to handle basic facility emergencies.
  • Ability to model Crisis intervention skills.
  • Ability to provide objective supportive listening and guidance.
  • Ability to write and speak clearly and concisely.
  • Ability to work independently, as well as part of a team.
  • Ability to model calm and cooperative behavior.
  • Ability to prioritize and complete multiple tasks in an organized manner.
  • Ability to maintain strict client confidentiality and engage with a diverse population.

Nice To Haves

  • Associates Degree in a related field.
  • Fluency in Spanish and/or an additional language.
  • Prior residential experience.
  • Prior experience working with domestic violence, substance abuse or mental health populations.
  • Demonstrate group meal preparation skills, basic household maintenance skills and group facilitation skills.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise the shelter overnight.
  • Provide crisis intervention and supportive listening to residents.
  • Oversee group and recreational activities.
  • Answer the 24-hour crisis line.
  • Perform administrative and facility duties.
  • Maintain a safe and secure environment.
  • Interact with residents in a positive and productive manner, providing emotional support and modeling respect.
  • Assist residents in meeting their daily needs and ensure they have necessary personal care items.
  • Resolve client issues and shelter concerns.
  • Enforce program policies and procedures and monitor resident compliance.
  • Provide supportive listening, crisis intervention, information, referral, and shelter intakes via the crisis line.
  • Conduct intakes and shelter orientation for new residents.
  • Coordinate and prepare resident breakfasts/meals.
  • Monitor and manage supply inventory.
  • Perform light housekeeping duties.
  • Respond to emergency situations appropriately and in a timely manner.
  • Enter relevant notations in logs and case notes, ensuring all information is documented in the ALICE database.
  • Communicate information to other staff.
  • Maintain shelter security.
  • Attend staff, supervision, and other required meetings.
  • Report suspected cases of child abuse/maltreatment as a mandated reporter.
  • Model crisis intervention skills.
