About The Position

The Salvation Army Midland Division Family Haven Shelter in St. Louis, Missouri, is seeking a part-time Residential Care Specialist. This non-exempt position involves 25 hours per week and offers an hourly wage of $15.50. The role is located at 10740 Page Ave, St. Louis, Missouri.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or equivalent diploma with one year experience working in a Social Service agency or two years residential experience without a diploma.
• Must be a team player.
• Must be a self-starter.
• Must perform well with minimum supervision.
• Good communication skills are essential.
• Ability to work with diverse and challenging personalities are essential.

Nice To Haves

• Higher education in psychology, social work, criminal justice or other related field is a plus.
• Computer skills are desirable.

Responsibilities

• Supporting clients in practicing positive behavior and activities to maintain safety and order within the facility and on surrounding grounds.
• Conducting and documenting hourly bed checks on all shifts to ensure client safety and compliance.
• Enforcing resident rules and policies in a fair and consistent manner.
• Maintaining the shelter journal/log by recording shift incidents and reviewing previous entries.
• Answering phones, taking messages, and communicating information appropriately.
• Assigning and coaching residents through completing chores; provide support and training as needed for chores.
• Helping maintain cleanliness and order in office and shared spaces.
• Attending and participating in team meetings, staff trainings, and organizational events (including fundraising and special events).
• Completing all assigned trainings in a timely manner.
• Fostering a positive and respectful work environment through professional and courteous communication with clients, coworkers, leads and supervisors.
• Resolving conflicts in a professional manner and demonstrating respect for others’ property and personal space.
