About The Position

Under the supervision of the Residential Services Coordinator, Adult Mental Health Services assists in the personal care and treatment of individuals with severe and persistent mental illness residing in a residential setting or supported independent living setting. The candidate is responsible for the implementation of skill acquisition, understanding the stages of change and substance use disorders as it relates to each individual’s plan of service, with a goal of assisting individuals to be as independent as possible. Acts as a resource and referral for residents to meet their needs. Provides transportation with an agency vehicle or personal vehicle, when needed, to and from day and evening activities, appointments, social, religious and recreational activities, and community inclusionary activities as assigned. Typical duties include supporting mental illness symptoms management, training and assisting residents in daily living skills such as medication management; personal care; interpersonal communication skills; cleaning; meal preparation and laundry; de-escalation skills; maintaining required documentation; and assisting residents in participation in community activities. Attends mandatory staff meetings and in-service training sessions.

Requirements

  • Possession of a High School diploma or G.E.D.
  • Must receive and maintain certification in Department of Community Health Group Home Skill Training.
  • Must be able to understand written instructions.
  • Ability to accurately and effectively communicate both in writing and verbally.
  • Must be able to read and follow medication charts.
  • Candidate will provide crisis intervention as needed.
  • Must be physically able to do lifting and transferring of physically impaired consumers according to approved agency policies/procedures.
  • Possession of a valid Michigan driver’s license.
  • Access to reliable transportation for job-related use.
