About The Position

This is a relief Registered Nurse position within the AMHS/Crisis Services in Lansing, MI. The role involves providing integrated behavioral and physical healthcare, managing medication, assessing and coordinating medical care, and offering direct services within the Crisis Care Center and Crisis Stabilization Unit (CSU). The nurse will be responsible for the administration and maintenance of medication, providing supportive services and direct interventions to consumers experiencing mental illness, substance use disorders, and developmental disabilities who are in crisis. Duties may include general nursing care, medical support, admissions screening, acting as an agency liaison, crisis intervention, case management, patient education, and supporting all programs within the Crisis Care Center. The nurse will carry out all activities in accordance with CMHA-CEI’s mission, policies, and procedures.

Requirements

  • Possession of an associate’s degree or a diploma in Nursing.
  • One year of professional experience with the assigned population.
  • One year of work experience serving adults with co-occurring disorders and serious mental illness.
  • Possession of a State of Michigan Licensure as a Registered Nurse.
  • Possession of “Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers” Certification.
  • Must be able to perform Handle with Care Behavior Management techniques according to approved Agency standards.
  • Possession of a valid Michigan driver's license.
  • Access to reliable means of transportation for job-related use.

Responsibilities

  • Providing integrated behavioral and physical healthcare.
  • Managing medication.
  • Assessing and coordinating physical/medical care.
  • Providing direct services within the Crisis Care Center.
  • Responsible for the orderly administration and maintenance of medication both within Crisis Services and the Crisis Stabilization Unit (CSU).
  • Providing a variety of supportive services and direct interventions with consumers experiencing severe and persistent mental illness, substance use disorders and Developmental Disabilities who are in crisis, needing stabilization.
  • Rendering general nursing care and providing medical support in accordance with approved nursing practices.
  • Providing information and assistance specific to the area of assignment.
  • Performing admissions screening on new consumers.
  • Serving as agency liaison.
  • Performing crisis intervention activities.
  • Providing case management.
  • Providing patient education.
  • Supporting all programs within the Crisis Care Center.
  • Carrying out all activities of the program/sub-unit in such a manner that fulfills CMHA-CEI’s mission, policies and procedures.
