About The Position

Booker T. Washington Academy Elementary School in New Haven, Connecticut, is seeking a full-time Resident Teacher to support its K–4 scholars and develop into a confident, skilled classroom educator. This school-based role is structured as a teacher residency: the Resident Teacher supports instruction, co-teaches, and gradually assumes greater classroom leadership through coaching, practice, and feedback. Residents work with mentor teachers to foster a consistent, joyful learning environment and support students academically and socially. The position includes co-planning and teaching across grade levels and content areas, leading small-group instruction, supporting classroom coverage, and participating in school routines and activities. The Resident Teacher develops skills in restorative and culturally responsive approaches and is expected to pursue certification through the RELAY Graduate School of Education partnership. The residency provides structured coaching and coursework, with a pathway toward a lead teaching role within Elevate Charter Schools. The ideal candidate is reflective, eager to learn, collaborative, adaptable, and interested in building a long-term career in education. Elevate Charter Schools is a nonprofit charter management organization serving urban communities in Connecticut and is committed to an inclusive, diverse, and equitable workplace.
