About The Position

The Residence Life Coordinator is responsible for the daily front desk operations of residence life, and independently coordinates and leads a high-quality Residential Life programing, and front desk operations. The Residence Life Coordinator supervises Graduate Assistants, coordinates residential programming, and responds to on call situations as they arise. In addition, the coordinator oversees administrative processes within the residence halls, educates students on community standards, and supports the University's retention efforts by closely monitoring and supporting students in their care. This position requires significant interaction and collaboration with many college partners. Reporting to the Assistant Director of Residence Life. Coordinator position opening. The Area Coordinator is a professional, full-time, live-in staff member within the Office of Student Affairs.

  • Abilities: Lifting, bending, and pulling equipment is required in the process of setting up or taking down equipment used for special events.
  • Position requires extensive walking (both indoors and outdoors) and climbing stairs, lifting, carrying, or moving of equipment and furniture up to 50 pounds, bending at the hips and knees, crouching, kneeling, stooping and similar movements may also be required.
  • Ability to supervise and lead a team or student group.
  • Bachelor's degree required with one-year full-time experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree is preferred in Student Personnel or related field.
  • One (1) year live-in residence life experience preferred.
  • Previous supervisory experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in staff hires, trains, mentors, and supervise a team of 6 Graduate Assistants as they develop as leaders and serve the residential population.
  • Facilitate large-scale department wide events, programs and initiatives offered to the entire campus community relating to topics around leadership, collaboration, innovation, adaptability, sustainability, community engagement, and more.
  • Participate in a rotating duty schedule, providing on-call/on-duty emergency and crisis response for students.
  • Provide facilitation for conflict resolution issues, assist students, and refer students to appropriate University and community resources.
  • Provide in-person response to critical incidents and maintain on-going student follow-up until reasonable care is provided.
  • Serve as first contact to students and parents in dealing with interpersonal concerns.
  • Provide consistent coaching, feedback, and professional development for Graduate Assistants.
  • Develop meaningful working relationships with Graduate Assistants through one-on-one’s and staff meetings.
  • Promote student learning through initiatives that enhance belonging, wellness, and intercultural engagement.
  • Respond to crises, behavioral concerns, and emergency situations with professionalism and empathy.
  • Understand and uphold the Student Code of Conduct and the Guide to Residence Hall Living.
  • Participate in department-wide processes including hall openings and closings, health and safety inspections, damage billing, and housing selection.
  • Manage a budget used for programming and student staff development within their assigned area.
  • Maintain accurate data, reports, and assessment outcomes for assigned functional areas.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to Saint Leo University’s institutional goals.
  • Attend departmental, divisional, and institutional meetings, and serve on committees as assigned.
