About The Position

The Residence Life Break Community Assistant (BCA) position is a student employment role equivalent to the length of the respective break covered. BCAs will fulfill the on-duty responsibilities of their current student staff position (JC/RA/SHC) and assist community members living in the residence halls over break periods. This assistance will be provided through modified hall receptionist services. The position involves on-call responsibilities, including carrying the duty phone and responding to resident concerns such as lock-outs and check-ins. BCAs are also responsible for upholding the student code of conduct and responding to inappropriate behavior. Front desk services will be provided in an on-call capacity, with opportunities for residents to check out desk items during specific periods.

Requirements

  • Must be a student with relevant residence life experience (includes J-term substitutes).
  • Attendance of mandatory Traka Box training (provided by AC Staff).

Responsibilities

  • Fulfill on-duty responsibilities of current student staff position (JC/RA/SHC).
  • Assist community members living in residence halls over break periods.
  • Provide modified hall receptionist services.
  • Carry the duty phone between 11 am and 7 am the following day (unless otherwise specified).
  • Respond to a call within 15 minutes of receipt while on duty.
  • Take two rounds of assigned buildings each shift: one daytime round and one nighttime round (unless otherwise specified).
  • Uphold the student code of conduct and respond to inappropriate behavior within the hall, in accordance with training and standards.
  • Provide front desk services in an on-call capacity.
  • Allow residents to check desk items out during specific periods during the day.
  • Be available to assist residents with lock-outs, check-ins, and other concerns between 11 am and 7 am.
  • Take daytime and nighttime rounds during the 11 am to 7 am shift.
  • Be available by phone between 3 pm and 5 pm and 7 pm and 9 pm (tentative) to check items out of the front desk for residents.
