About The Position

Reporting to the Associate Director, Residence Life, the Residence Area Coordinator (RAC) is responsible for several residences that house students in an environment that promotes academic and personal growth. The RAC will oversee a major portfolio within Student Housing Services (i.e., hiring, training, performance/coaching, etc.), and will participate on several committees, both internal and external to the department.

Requirements

  • A University degree (master’s degree preferred), four years of related management experience in a residence environment, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Demonstrated administrative skills.
  • An understanding of life within a post-secondary institution.
  • Working and communicating effectively with students.
  • Experience with residence living.
  • Conflict mediation/resolution skills.
  • Crisis intervention/management skills.
  • Understanding of student development theory.
  • Experience dealing with high stress situations.
  • Ability to interact with all levels of the university community.
  • Experience and competence in student development theory.
  • Experience in community building.
  • Experience in programming.
  • Experience in management and supervision of staff.
  • Experience in management of student behaviour.
  • Experience in staff training and development.
  • Experience in budget management and planning.
  • Experience in restorative practices.
  • Must be able to be part of a 24/7 Manager on-call rotation for residence.
  • Must be able to live on campus.

Responsibilities

  • Directly supervise 1-3 Residence Life Managers or 6 Residence Life Managers-in-Training.
  • Responsible for all aspects of student life within their assigned area, including counselling and management of student behaviour.
  • Recruitment, training and supervision of student and professional staff.
  • Liaising with all the resources required to maintain the quality of student life.
  • Oversee the delivery of programs, activities and services.
  • Manage student behavioural concerns, ensuring appropriate actions are taken.
  • Meet with students of concern and develop support plans with appropriate campus services.
  • Manage various budgets associated with the residence, such as staff hospitality, programming, and portfolio projects.
  • Participate on several committees, both internal and external to the department.
