About The Position

The Weinstock lab is seeking a Research Technician to join us full-time. This position is integral to supporting laboratory research activities on the effects of weight cycling on inflammation in adipose tissue and systemically. Our studies aim to understand the complexities of obesity, including how weight loss and regain affect the immune system. Under the general supervision of the Principal Investigator (PI), the Research Technician will work closely with postdoctoral fellows, research staff, and other team members. The role includes hands-on laboratory work with mouse models, managing lab inventory, and assisting in experiments and project organization. This is an in-person position based at the University of Chicago medical campus.

Requirements

  • Minimum requirements include a college or university degree in related field.
  • Minimum requirements include knowledge and skills developed through < 2 years of work experience in a related job discipline.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Previous laboratory research experience with mouse handling, cell culture and tissue processing, including cryosectioning, immunostaining and microscopy.
  • Works well in a team.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Highly organized.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in setting up and executing experiments, including work with mouse models.
  • Maintain and organize lab supplies, equipment, and inventory.
  • Support sample collection, processing, and analysis (e.g., tissue and blood samples).
  • Aid in data entry, management, and ensuring data integrity.
  • Prepare and maintain laboratory records and notebooks.
  • Collaborate with fellow researchers and attend group meetings.
  • Follow safety and ethical protocols in all laboratory procedures.
  • Maintains technical and administrative support for a research project.
  • Analyzes and maintains data and/or specimens.
  • Conducts literature reviews.
  • Assists with preparation of reports, manuscripts and other documents.
  • Performs other related work as needed.
