About The Position

The Hauf Lab at Virginia Tech is seeking a research technician to assist with cloning and yeast strain construction for their gene expression regulation projects. The role involves techniques such as PCR, cloning, bacteria and yeast transformations, CRISPR/Cas9-mediated genome editing of yeast, and fluorescence microscopy. This position is limited to 6-12 months and is suitable for individuals seeking further training and experience before graduate school or industry roles. A minimum commitment of 15 hours per week is required. The position offers an opportunity to engage in cutting-edge molecular cell biology research within an enthusiastic team.

Requirements

• Experience in a molecular cell biology laboratory outside of courses.
• Hands-on experience with basic molecular biology techniques such as PCR and cloning.
• Knowledge of proper laboratory procedures.
• Experience with documenting experiments and keeping a lab book.
• Excellent organization and record-keeping skills.
• Minimum time commitment of 15 hours/week.

Nice To Haves

• B.Sc. degree in biology or a related discipline.
• Experience in designing molecular biology experiments (primer design, cloning strategies).
• Experience with DNA sequence software (SnapGene, Benchling, Lasergene, or equivalent).
