About The Position

Dr. Shujun Ou's Laboratory at the Department of Molecular Genetics at The Ohio State University is seeking a Research Technician to maintain the transposable element tools the lab has developed. The position has the opportunity to develop new tools to enhance the lab’s capabilities in annotating transposable elements (TEs) and repetitive sequences. The Ou Lab is dedicated to investigating the world of TEs by creating innovative genomic algorithms, adapting the latest sequencing technologies, and deploying cutting-edge experimental facilities. The lab studies TEs' role in both plants and animals when they face unfavorable conditions. The ultimate goal is to uncover valuable insights that will contribute to improving crops and benefit farmers under challenging climate conditions. The College of Arts and Sciences is the largest college and the academic heart of the university. The College hosts 81 majors. Dr. Shujun Ou's Laboratory at the Department of Molecular Genetics at The Ohio State University has great traditions for its development of highly accurate and scalable genomic tools, with significant contributions to Transposable Elements (TE) annotations. Led by Dr. Shujun Ou, who has over a decade of experience in genomic tool development, the lab is an emerging leader in its field, evidenced by the widespread citation of our tools. Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED
  • 1 year of relevant experience

Nice To Haves

  • B.S. in STEM field with preferred experience in bioinformatic data analysis

Responsibilities

  • Maintain the transposable element tools the lab has developed
  • Develop new tools to enhance the lab’s capabilities in annotating transposable elements (TEs) and repetitive sequences
  • Prepare genomic data for collaborative projects in the lab
  • Execute bioinformatic pipelines
  • Analyze genomic data and draw conclusions
  • Perform benchmarking and testing of bioinformatic tools
  • Identify bugs and enhancements of bioinformatic tools
  • Attend project meetings and contribute to project discussions
  • Write manuscripts
  • Participate in grant preparation and writing
