About The Position

The Ragunathan Lab at Brandeis University, situated in the vibrant city of Waltham, MA is located approximately 9 miles outside of Boston. Our research focuses on understanding the molecular mechanisms of epigenetic inheritance using genomics, genetics, biochemistry, and biophysics. As a Research Associate, you will have the unique opportunity to work closely with me and a post-doctoral researcher. This position will help train the person chosen for this role in molecular biology, genetics, lab management, project management and fosters critical thinking skills in scientific research. Undergraduate students who have been a part of the lab in the past have pursued successful careers in graduate school, companies, and medical school. We are committed to supporting your professional future whatever they may be. We will hire for this position over the coming months with a target start date of July 1 2026, and will close the position once a new hire has been confirmed. This is a one-year position from the date of hire, with the possibility of extension for up to two years, contingent upon work performance and continued funding to support the position.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in biology, biochemistry, genetics, or a related field is strongly preferred.
• Minimum one year of hands-on experience either through research in a laboratory or course setting, demonstrating proficiency in RNA purification, chromatin immunoprecipitation, Western blotting, PCR, and yeast genetics
• Strong communication skills and the ability to work well in a team
• An emphasis on organizational and record keeping skills to ensure the conduct of rigorous and reproducible research
• A strong desire to learn and with an emphasis on being curious to pursue exploratory research- this typically means being a part of many different projects and pursuing many different ideas

Responsibilities

• Conduct laboratory experiments using fission yeast as a model system to study epigenetic mechanisms.
• Perform molecular biology techniques such as PCR, DNA extraction, cloning, and gene expression analysis.
• Support the research missions of multiple people in the lab by preparing buffers, media, and reagents.
• Record and analyze experimental data accurately.
• Participate in lab meetings, present research findings, and contribute to the development of research proposals.
• Maintain laboratory equipment and supplies in good working condition.
• Performs tasks that help with management of day to day activities of the lab, this includes ordering of reagents, restocking, and training new personnel
