The General Hospital Corporation Mass General Brigham is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to patient care, research, teaching, and community service, striving to provide exceptional care and drive groundbreaking medical discoveries. The Cereda Lab at Massachusetts General Hospital focuses on understanding the mechanisms of acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) and developing innovative strategies for individualized life support. ARDS, caused by inflammatory lung injury, is associated with the loss of ventilated airspaces, low blood oxygen, and high mortality. The research investigates the significant role of dysregulation and misdistribution of lung perfusion, as well as the influence of excess adipose tissue, in determining the clinical trajectory of ARDS and its response to treatment. The proposed research will utilize imaging to reveal the contribution of abnormal pulmonary perfusion and excess adiposity to the progression of lung injury and to develop strategies to attenuate ARDS severity. The Research Technician works under the supervision of Dr. Cereda, performing in vivo and in vitro experiments and assisting researchers with a variety of laboratory tasks.
