About The Position

Performs intermediate to complex technical support, general lab maintenance, and lab operational support with some degree of independence to aid in research projects. Responsible for following lab safety standards. The Research Technician supports laboratory-based research by performing a variety of research procedures and techniques, including immunohistochemistry and immunofluorescence, as well as working with animal models of neurodegenerative diseases (rodents and nonhuman primates). The research technician will also have knowledge of experimental procedures, specialized laboratory techniques, and data analysis in support of scientific investigations. This role includes working with animal models of neurodegenerative diseases, maintaining detailed research records, supporting publication efforts, and ensuring compliance with laboratory protocols, safety standards, and regulatory requirements.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma and two-years (2) experience appropriate to the area of assignment/field; OR, Any equivalent combination of experience and training from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.
  • Knowledge of experimental procedures, specialized laboratory techniques, and data analysis in support of scientific investigations.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks at one time, to be able to prioritize tasks, to manage conflict, to interact in a team environment, and to communicate effectively to exchange accurate information.
  • Ability to clearly communicate and exchange accurate information to perform essential duties.
  • May be required to wear personal protective equipment before entering laboratories, such as a lab coat, gloves, safety glasses, closed-toe shoes, and a respirator.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree in a field appropriate to the area of assignment; OR Four (4) years of research experience appropriate to the area of assignment
  • Experience with immunohistochemistry and immunofluorescence.
  • Experience working with animal models of neurodegenerative diseases (rodents and nonhuman primates).
  • Experience with statistical methods for data analysis and interpretation.
  • Experience in preparing, drafting, and editing research manuscripts, reports, and publications.
  • Experience in developing, documenting, and updating standard operating procedures (SOPs).
  • Experience operating, calibrating, and maintaining laboratory and research equipment, including microscopes, centrifuges, microtomes, and analytical balances.
  • Experience performing research-related animal procedures in accordance with regulatory and ethical guidelines, including injections, blood and cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) collection, behavioral assessments, surgical procedures, perfusion, and necropsy.

Responsibilities

  • Perform skilled laboratory procedures, experimental tests, and technical analyses in support of research objectives.
  • Maintain accurate, detailed, and organized records of experimental methods, procedures, and results in laboratory notebooks and electronic systems.
  • Analyze experimental data, including summarizing results, generating graphs, and preparing datasets for interpretation and reporting.
  • Assist in the preparation, drafting, and editing of research manuscripts, reports, and publications.
  • Conduct comprehensive literature reviews, including library and database searches, to support research design and ongoing projects.
  • Support the design and implementation of statistical methods for data analysis; assist in interpreting statistical outputs.
  • Evaluate the validity and reliability of experimental data; recommend additional testing, protocol adjustments, or methodological improvements as needed.
  • Generate and manage statistical datasets using scientific and analytical software; interpret findings for research applications and project reporting.
  • Assist in developing, documenting, and updating standard operating procedures (SOPs); perform quality control checks to ensure compliance with established protocols.
  • Operate, calibrate, and maintain laboratory and research equipment, including microscopes, centrifuges, microtomes, and analytical balances.
