Requirements

  • Bachelor's of Science preferred (Research Specialist B).
  • 1 to 2 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience (Research Specialist B).
  • Experience with rodents in a laboratory setting required.
  • Bachelor's of Science (Research Specialist C).
  • Master’s degree preferred (Research Specialist C).
  • 3 to 5 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience (Research Specialist C).

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree preferred (Research Specialist C).

Responsibilities

  • Execution of in vivo and in vitro studies.
  • Assisting in writing and implementing protocols.
  • Conducting experiments.
  • Helping maintain equipment.
  • Ordering supplies and animals.
  • Performing data collection and analysis.
  • Assisting the laboratory.
  • Mastering technical aspects of laboratory assays.
  • Overseeing lab safety.
  • Supervising a team of 2-3 lab members (as Research Specialist C).
  • Directly performing and analyzing assays in rodent models that may include: body composition (NMR; DEXA); CLAMS; treadmill exercise insulin/glucose clamp and radioisotopic tracer kinetics; thermography; BAT thermogenesis; tissue chemistry; ELISA; Glucose and insulin tolerance tests; Mass Spectrometry.
  • Troubleshooting equipment and software issues.
  • Aiding the PI/Technical Director in interfacing with companies and Penn IT to troubleshoot equipment and software issues.
