The University of Mississippi is seeking a Research Scientist to lead the selection, development, and application of biological methods for evaluating the efficacy of natural products. The role focuses on designing and implementing bioassays, advancing microbial research, and contributing to scientific publications and funding reports. The Research Scientist will select, develop, and apply biological assays to identify phytochemicals with antibacterial and antifungal potential. The position also conducts safety evaluations of natural products in collaboration with NCNPR scientists, helping distinguish safety concerns from promising antimicrobial leads. Additional work includes authoring peer-reviewed publications, preparing progress reports for funding agencies, presenting findings, and partnering with cross-functional teams at the Center. The position requires a Ph.D. in Microbiology or a closely related discipline and at least three years of post-doctoral research experience focused primarily on the antibacterial and antifungal effects of natural products. Candidates must have hands-on expertise developing, validating, and setting up tailored biological assays, advanced microbiology techniques, and a deep understanding of complex mixtures and identifying active compounds in botanical extracts. Experience integrating analytical data with antimicrobial and antifungal profiles is preferred.
