The University of Mississippi is seeking a Research Scientist in Analytical Chemistry to conduct advanced research on the safety, quality, and authenticity of natural products, particularly macromolecules. The role focuses on selecting, developing, validating, and applying novel analytical methods, including methods recommended by regulatory agencies and aligned with standard guidelines, to support reliable assessment of natural products and phytochemicals with higher molecular weights. The successful candidate will contribute to scientific publications, prepare reports for funding agencies, and perform related duties required to advance research in this area. The role also involves collaboration across disciplines to translate analytical findings into practical solutions for industry, regulators, and the scientific community.

Requirements

  • PhD in pharmacognosy, pharmacology, traditional medicines, or pharmaceutical sciences; the listed education qualification specifies a PhD in Pharmacognosy as required.
  • For the Research Scientist rank, at least 3 years of postdoctoral experience emphasizing aspects of natural products research related to analytical methods.
  • Strong skills in developing and setting up analytical assays and using analytical instrumentation.

Responsibilities

  • Select, develop, validate, and apply novel analytical methods to assess the safety, quality, and authenticity of natural products, including higher-molecular-weight phytochemicals.
  • Use analytical methods recommended by regulatory agencies and follow standard guidelines.
  • Apply analytical techniques to detect adulterants, contaminants, and undeclared ingredients, and to confirm the identity and integrity of complex natural product matrices.
  • Carry out research duties needed to advance work in this area and collaborate across disciplines to translate findings into practical solutions.
