About The Position

The University of Mississippi is seeking a dedicated and experienced Research Scientist for the National Center for Natural Products Research (NCNPR). The position leads the selection, development, and application of biological methods to evaluate the efficacy and safety of natural products. The scientist designs and implements bioassays, conducts research on antimicrobial properties of phytochemicals, collaborates with NCNPR scientists and cross-functional teams, and contributes to scientific publications, funding reports, and presentations.

Requirements

• Ph.D. in Microbiology or a closely related discipline; the listed required degree is a Ph.D. in Microbiology.
• At least 3 years of postdoctoral research experience, with a strong primary emphasis on the antibacterial and antifungal effects of natural products.
• Hands-on expertise developing, validating, and setting up tailored biological assays to assess phytochemical efficacy.
• Advanced microbiology techniques.
• Deep understanding of complex mixtures and identifying active compounds in botanical extracts.

Responsibilities

• Select, develop, and apply biological assays to identify phytochemicals with antibacterial and antifungal efficacy.
• Conduct safety evaluations of natural products and collaborate with NCNPR scientists to distinguish safety concerns from promising antimicrobial leads.
• Author peer-reviewed scientific publications and prepare detailed progress reports for funding agencies.
• Present research findings.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams within the Center to advance natural products research.
• Perform related duties as required.
