About the position
The Allen Institute for Artificial Intelligence is seeking Research Scientists with a strong foundation in natural language processing, machine reading, automatic knowledge base construction, large-scale textual inference and entailment, knowledge representation and reasoning, computer vision and machine learning, or question answering and explanation. The ideal candidate will have a passion for the larger vision of AI, building systems that can read, reason, and understand. The Research Scientist will have a primary focus in one of AI2's projects, but will also have the opportunity to contribute and engage in a variety of other areas critical to the research and mission. The role offers the opportunity to work with world-class AI researchers and talented software engineers in an exciting and interactive workplace.
Responsibilities
- Conduct research and development in artificial intelligence, specifically in one or more of the following areas: machine reasoning, natural language processing, large-scale language modeling, and question answering and explanation.
- Participate in or lead select R&D projects, work with management to develop the long-term vision for knowledge systems R&D, and take a leading role in overseeing and implementing software systems supporting AI2’s research.
- Author and present scientific papers and presentations for peer-reviewed journals and conferences.
- Help develop collaborative and strategic relationships with relevant academic, industrial, government, and standards organizations.
- Work with world-class AI researchers and talented software engineers in a team-based, ambitious research environment.
- Strive for big breakthroughs, not just incremental progress, in AI research.
- Contribute and engage in a variety of other areas critical to AI2’s research and mission.
- Have a primary focus in one of the specific areas mentioned, but also have the opportunity to work in other areas.
- Have a passion for the larger vision of AI, building systems that can read, reason, and understand.
Requirements
- Applicants should have a strong foundation (typically PhD level) in one or more of the following areas: natural language processing, machine reading, automatic knowledge base construction, large-scale textual inference and entailment, knowledge representation and reasoning, computer vision and machine learning, or question answering and explanation.
- Applicants should have skills in one or more of the following areas: machine reasoning, natural language processing, large-scale language modeling, question answering and explanation.
- Applicants should have a passion for the larger vision of AI, building systems that can read, reason, and understand.
- Applicants should have extensive work experience and publishing demonstrating application of their research.
- The job involves contributing and engaging in a variety of other areas critical to the research and mission of AI2.
- The job involves participating in or leading select R&D projects, working with management to develop the long term vision for knowledge systems R&D, taking a leading role in overseeing and implementing software systems supporting AI2’s research, authoring and presenting scientific papers and presentations for peer-reviewed journals and conferences, and helping develop collaborative and strategic relationships with relevant academic, industrial, government, and standards organizations.
