About The Position

The American Families of Faith Project in the BYU School of Family Life is a national research project led by Dr. David Dollahite and Dr. Loren Marks. This project is committed to exploring religions and relationships through in-depth interviews with married couples and children from across the country. We are looking for a project manager to coauthor public scholarship based on the research, oversee our student research assistants, and to lead out in research data collection, management, coding, and analysis.

Requirements

  • A firm commitment to the mission of BYU
  • Bachelor’s degree in family studies or related field
  • At least one year of research experience
  • Ability to manage qualitative data
  • Knowledge of NVIVO software
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s or PhD in family studies or related field
  • 3+ years of experience with the AFF project
  • Experience submitting scholarly journal articles and shepherding them to publication
  • Familiarity with higher education

Responsibilities

  • Work with AFF co-directors Dollahite and Marks
  • Serve as coauthor, and potentially lead author, on public scholarship
  • Hire, train, and manage a team of undergraduate student research assistants, including training on how to code data
  • Manage processes of qualitative data collection, including assisting with recruitment of families to the AFF project, conducting and transcribing interviews with families who have been selected as potential participants, and administering demographic surveys
  • Manage the process of data cleaning and storage
  • Analyze collected and coded data in preparation for use in publications
