About The Position

The University of Miami/UHealth Department of Surgery has an exciting opportunity for a Full Time, Research to work in Miami. The Research Laboratory Technician aids scientists in their experiments by monitoring and recording their findings. Moreover, the Research Laboratory Technician ensures laboratory compliance with applicable safety regulations.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum 1 year of relevant experience

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with animal models of chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy, microbiome analysis, bacterial culture of engineered probiotics, metabolomics sample processing, and molecular biology techniques is highly desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Cleans, sanitizes, maintains, and operates laboratory equipment.
  • Keeps records of research data and assists in analyzing it.
  • Maintains inventory of laboratory equipment and supplies and places orders in a timely fashion.
  • Proofreads and assists in the writing of manuscripts, grant proposals, and lab protocols.
  • Prepares reports of experiment results.
  • Performs research by completing simple experiments or steps in more complicated studies.
  • Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.
  • Perform chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy (CIPN) mouse studies, including animal handling, dosing, oral gavage, and tissue collection.
  • Maintain and culture engineered E. coli Nissle 1917 (EcN-GAD and EcN-BUT) strains and perform routine quality control procedures.
  • Conduct behavioral pain assessments including Randall-Selitto, von Frey, and thermal nociception assays.
  • Process biological samples (feces, serum, colon, DRG, spinal cord) for molecular, microbiome, and metabolomic analyses.
  • Perform molecular biology techniques including RNA extraction, qPCR, Western blotting, ELISA, and immunofluorescence.
  • Assist with microbiome studies, including DNA isolation, library preparation, and sample submission for sequencing.
  • Maintain accurate laboratory records, prepare reports, and assist with data entry and analysis.
  • Ensure compliance with IACUC, biosafety, and laboratory safety regulations.
  • Assist with inventory management, ordering supplies, and maintaining laboratory equipment.
  • Participate in manuscript preparation, grant progress reports, and laboratory meetings.
