The Research Intern will work with an interdisciplinary team of neuropsychologists, neurologists, geriatricians, and clinical researchers specializing in aging and Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias (ADRD). The internship provides students and trainees with basic research skills and exposure to basic, translational, and/or clinical research. It is typically no longer than twelve months and takes place under the direct supervision of an assigned Postdoctoral Scientist, senior-level Research Associate, and/or Principal Investigator. The intern will participate in the Goldrich Observational ADRD Longitudinal studies, including the GOAL Study, which is establishing a longitudinal cohort across the ADRD continuum, and the RAPID study, which uses brief cognitive testing and questionnaires relevant to ADRD. The intern will learn about clinical research study design and implementation, informed consent, human-subjects protections, clinical cohort studies, and community-based participatory research. Training also includes REDCap data management, basic statistical analyses, hypothesis development, and abstract writing. The intern will develop and implement a clinical research project using existing datasets and produce an abstract suitable for submission to a local or national research conference. The program includes human-subjects and research ethics training; protocol and study-design review; introductions to neurodegenerative diseases, community-engaged research, cognitive assessments, and data coding; observations of clinical research procedures; outreach events and team meetings; data quality and management; hypothesis development and testing; basic statistics; and abstract writing. The internship is based at the Goldrich Center for Alzheimer’s and Memory Disorders at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center.
