About The Position

The Algorithms group at Microsoft Research (MSR) Redmond is seeking a Research Intern to advance research in generative modeling. Work may involve fundamental algorithmic innovations to improve the efficiency and generation quality of existing models, including diffusion models, image auto-regressive models, and language models, as well as designing next-generation generative modeling techniques. The group's research has been published in leading venues such as NeurIPS, ICML, and ICLR. The 12-week internship pairs interns with mentors. Interns collaborate with other interns and researchers, present findings, contribute to research and development, and participate in the research community. Internships are offered year-round and typically begin in the summer. Interns are expected to be physically located at their manager’s Microsoft worksite for the duration of the internship. For fullest consideration, apply by January 1, 2027. Applications and offers are processed on an ongoing basis during the academic calendar (September–April), and the position is open for at least five days and accepts applications until filled. Applicants must submit at least two reference letters, a cover letter, and relevant work or research samples. Reference letters may be requested after application submission and are not automatically requested for all candidates. Compensation is listed by level and work location. Applied Sciences IC2: $5,690–$11,210 per month, or $7,410–$12,250 per month in the San Francisco Bay Area and New York City metropolitan area. Applied Sciences IC3: $6,810–$13,480 per month, or $8,920–$14,610 per month in those metropolitan areas. Certain roles may be eligible for benefits and other compensation; further information is available through Microsoft Careers.
