A Research Fellow in Engineering (ENG) performs research based on the role and its responsibilities, applying engineering skills regardless of Ph.D. background. Depending on the research area, work may include setting up mechanical research equipment, developing experimental protocols, biomechanics development in orthopedics, implementing protocols, and providing engineering technical expertise and analysis. The role may also involve x-ray computed tomography (CT), radiation dosimetry, x-ray physics, and using Matlab and/or C++ programs. Other work may include participating in a special engineering group, processing and testing algorithms, working with informatics and data for computer programming, and implementing algorithms for research concepts, clinical applications, and devices. The Research Fellow position is temporary and provides training and education in research. The fellow trains in a Mayo Clinic principal investigator’s research program. Qualified candidates demonstrate research potential through their training and peer-reviewed publications and are expected to become competitive for national research grants. Proof of English proficiency is required for J-1 Short-Term Scholars, Research Scholars, Professors, Specialists, and Student Interns sponsored by Mayo Clinic.
