About The Position

This is a full-time, fixed-term Research Fellow position for 4 years at Monash University. The role is part of an Australian Research Council (ARC) Discovery Project focused on producing Australia's first comprehensive history of disability. The position combines high-impact historical research (0.6 FTE) with project management (0.4 FTE), aiming to drive academic outputs and lead the operational success and public engagement of the research initiative.

Requirements

  • A Ph.D in History (or equivalent research experience).
  • Demonstrated experience in historical/scholarly research.
  • Demonstrated experience in manuscript preparation.
  • A strong track record of refereed publications.
  • Proven organizational abilities to run project operations.
  • Proven abilities to coordinate stakeholders.
  • Proven abilities to organize events seamlessly.
  • A strong track record of working effectively both independently and as part of an interdisciplinary research team.
  • Exceptional written and oral communication skills.
  • Advanced digital/computer proficiency.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct essential, complex historical research into Australian disability services from 1945 to the mid-1980s.
  • Publish at least two peer-reviewed journal articles.
  • Contribute to a landmark co-authored monograph.
  • Contribute to conference papers, research proposals, and broader academic discourse.
  • Oversee day-to-day project operations to ensure seamless execution.
  • Manage project correspondence and website content.
  • Organise major public and academic events, including writing workshops and symposia.
  • Assist in executing the project’s Research Stakeholder Engagement Strategy.
