About The Position

The Research & Development Leadership Development Program (RDLDP) is designed to help talented engineering students develop technical skills, business acumen, and cross-functional proficiencies to lead and create innovative ideas, products, and services for people around the world. This is a 12-week internship program over the summer, serving as an introduction to various R&D platforms and focusing on selecting high performers for the full-time program upon graduation. Participants will receive in-depth classroom training, connect with R&D LDP peers and the broader R&D community, and gain exciting internal development training opportunities and externally recognized qualifications, such as process design excellence, to advance their career paths. The program aims to provide a strong foundation in the technical skills, business acumen, and cross-functional proficiencies needed to succeed as an R&D leader.

Requirements

  • Current graduate students enrolled in an engineering graduate program.
  • On track to earn a master’s degree by June 2028.
  • Minimum GPA of 3.3 strongly preferred.
  • Ability to relocate anywhere in the U.S. as required for program rotations.
  • Ineligibility for severance.
  • Demonstrated ability to rapidly learn, evaluate, and adopt new AI tools and ways of working to meet evolving business needs.
  • Ability to collaborate with technical teams to identify AI opportunities, evaluate feasibility, and accelerate AI-enabled ways of working adoption.

Nice To Haves

  • Preferred majors: bioengineering, computer, electrical, mechanical, material science, robotics, systems, software, and optical engineering.
  • Strongly preferred skill or experience with machine learning, deep machine learning, IoT, embedded software, prototyping, robot design, systems reliability, firmware, and hardware integration.
  • Understanding of ethical considerations and responsible AI practices, ensuring compliance with industry standards and organizational policies.
  • Valid leadership experience.
  • Previous R&D internship experience with J&J highly preferred.

  • Co-Ops and Interns are eligible for sick time benefits: up to 40 hours per calendar year; for employees who reside in the State of Washington, up to 56 hours per calendar year.
