About The Position

This position is for a Research Assistant/Technician 3 within the UBC Mood Disorders Clinic, Djavad Mowafaghian Centre for Brain Health. The role involves assisting with various research activities, including coordinating studies, preparing documentation for ethics submissions, recruiting and scheduling participants, administering tests, data entry and analysis, and preparing reports and manuscripts. The position requires a high degree of organization, attention to detail, and professionalism, as errors can jeopardize project outcomes and future funding. The role is supervised by the Principal Investigator and Senior Research Coordinators.

Requirements

  • Completion of a relevant technical program or a university degree in a relevant discipline
  • A minimum of three years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience

Nice To Haves

  • Undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline or Graduation from a technical college or institute
  • Minimum of 3 years related experience or the equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Experience with administering Neurocognitive tests
  • Experience and familiarity with psychiatric questionnaires and interviews
  • Experience working with clinical populations
  • Previous experience writing manuscripts and authorship
  • Demonstrated experience with computers and computer software including MS Word for Windows, MS Excel, Power Point and SPSS
  • Accuracy and attention to detail
  • Effective oral and written communication, interpersonal, multi-tasking and organizational skills
  • Ability to work independently and within a team environment
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize work to meet deadlines

Responsibilities

  • Takes primary responsibility for coordinating multiple research studies
  • Responsible for preparing Ethics submissions, amendments, renewals, and compliance documentation
  • Assists in the preparation of protocol material (e.g., consents, ethics, protocols, patient information sheets)
  • Recruits, screens, schedules and coordinates appointments for research participants
  • Obtains informed consent for studies
  • Assists with patient flow through the clinic, as needed
  • Administers questionnaires and neurocognitive tests to clinical subjects
  • Transcribes patient data into study report forms
  • Scores instruments (tallying scores, checking scores for accuracy) completed by patients and clinicians
  • Maintains study patient records in good order
  • Performs data entry
  • Maintains and checks research database for accuracy and completeness
  • Completes literature reviews and internet searches, and retrieving articles from the library
  • Prepares reports from research database
  • Assists with basic statistical analyses
  • Prepares draft manuscripts for publication
  • Assists with grant applications
  • Processes blood and urine samples for studies (centrifuging, pipetting, freezing, etc.)
  • Prepares power point presentations
  • Filing, photocopying and general office work
  • Performs other related duties as required
