Research Associate I - Guerin Children's - Traver Lab - Full-Time, On-Site, Days
About The Position
The Research Associate I works under direct supervision to perform routine experimental protocols and procedures supporting one or more laboratory research projects. The role supports research led by Principal Investigator David Traver, PhD, in the Traver Lab at Guerin Children's. Duties include general laboratory activities, maintaining reagents and supplies, filing and monitoring documents, keeping detailed experiment records, and assisting with specialized equipment. The position has no supervisory responsibilities. The role performs routine cellular, micro- and molecular biology procedures, including Western and Northern blots, DNA/RNA procedures, PCR, protein extraction, cell culture, immunohistochemistry, and staining. It also involves sample handling, database maintenance, equipment and laboratory upkeep, and compliance with safety standards.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Biological Sciences.
- Working knowledge of database management, personal computers, and presentation and imaging software.
- Understanding of general research objectives.
- Familiarity with routine laboratory procedures and experimental protocols.
- Computer skills including Excel and Word.
Nice To Haves
- Human embryonic stem cell (hESC) experience.
Responsibilities
- Perform a variety of routine laboratory tasks, experimental protocols, and procedures.
- Keep accurate and detailed project records of experiments and results.
- Assist with animal husbandry, as needed.
- Maintain laboratory equipment and related records.
- Transport, process, and log samples.
- Maintain a computer database with relevant clinical information.
- Perform laboratory maintenance duties, including cleaning and sterilizing glassware.
- Maintain stocks of general laboratory materials and place orders for laboratory equipment and supplies.
- Assist new students and fellows in the laboratory.
- Assist with the operation of specialized equipment and machinery.
- Observe and comply with safety standards and procedures.
