About The Position

This is a part-time, non-benefited position for a Research Assistant under Dr. Moones. The role involves preparing, revising, and maintaining 2D AutoCAD drawings for a drying system, including process flow and piping diagrams, general arrangement drawings, and equipment layouts. The assistant will also check and correct existing drawings, participate in design meetings, maintain drawing registers, and prepare figures for technical reports. This position is open only to UND students and requires a current enrollment in an engineering program, with graduate standing preferred. Applicants must be able to manage combined work hours below 20 per week if they hold another UND appointment.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated proficiency in AutoCAD 2D drafting.
  • Completed coursework or documented work experience in engineering drawing or CAD.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and produce engineering drawings, including piping and instrumentation diagrams.
  • Working understanding of mechanical and piping systems and of standard drafting conventions and title block practice.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to work independently, manage deadlines, and incorporate review comments.
  • Clear written and verbal communication.
  • Current UND student in good standing, enrolled in an engineering program; graduate standing preferred.
  • Applicants who hold another UND appointment must be able to keep total combined hours at or below 20 per week during the academic year.
  • Successful completion of a Criminal History Background Check.

Responsibilities

  • Check and correct existing drawings for dimensional, annotation, and standards accuracy.
  • Participate in weekly project design meetings and contribute to design decisions, alternatives, and sizing discussions.
  • Maintain drawing registers and revision control.
  • Prepare drawing figures for inclusion in technical reports and publications.
  • Perform other related design support tasks as assigned by the PI.
