About The Position

A highly motivated, experienced Research Technician is needed for a nationally (SSHRC) funded project on ‘Trauma-Informed Care Guidelines for Virtual Abortion Services (TICG-VAS)”. The purpose of this study is to develop trauma-informed care guidelines tailored to virtual abortion services. By working closely with sexual and reproductive health service providers, the project aims to produce trauma-informed virtual care guidelines to improve patients’ experiences of virtual abortion services. These guidelines will support abortion providers in recognizing and responding to signs of distress or trauma during virtual interactions. The research technician will be involved in supporting the preparation of BREB materials, literature review, analysis of data and assisting with preparation of manuscripts. This position will participate in the preparation of ethics application materials and conducting a literature search with the assistance of UBC librarian on trauma-informed sexual and reproductive health services. The research technician will also provide supervision to undergraduate students who may be part of the project. The position is hybrid, with occasional visits to the PI Research Unit at the School of Nursing, Surrey Campus.

Requirements

  • Completion of a relevant technical program or a university degree in a relevant discipline and a minimum three years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Nice To Haves

  • A graduate student or a master’s degree in health or social sciences.
  • Experience in literature reviews, ethics application, data collection and analysis preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare routine ethics application materials (e.g., recruitment posters, consent forms)
  • Conduct a systematic search of scientific literature
  • Screening articles, extracting data and synthesizing according to predefined eligibility criteria.
  • Prepare reports, assist with preliminary draft of manuscripts, reports, and conference abstracts
  • Coordinate projects, including scheduling meetings and maintaining research documentation.
  • Prepare knowledge translation activities such as presentations, workshops, and stakeholder engagement.
  • Develop and refine guideline content, ensuring alignment with findings from the literature review
  • Maintain organized documentation of all project activities, data, and versions of guideline drafts
  • Organize and conduct focus group discussions or individual interviews
  • Perform qualitative and/or quantitative data collection and analysis.
  • Administer and organize research data using appropriate software (e.g., NVivo, Excel, SPSS, or R).
  • Contribute to the preparation of grant applications and research proposals
  • Support stakeholder engagement activities (e.g., coordinating advisory meetings, workshops, or consultations)
  • Any other duties as may be assigned
