About The Position

The Research Analyst is responsible for gathering prospect and donor information necessary to identify, qualify, cultivate, solicit, and steward engaged relationships in support of the Development and Alumni Relations department. They are responsible to build research knowledge on organizational leadership, employees who are alumni, new product strategies, market trends, and other information that can be used to support the Culinary Institute of America’s (“CIA’s”) prospect strategy work and to prepare the College President and institution leadership for meetings and events.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Minimum two (2) years of Advancement or Development experience.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Must have demonstrated professional writing experience.
  • Strong computer experience, which must include ability to work effectively with Internet-based research techniques, MS Office Suite products, i.e. Word, Excel and Power Point.
  • Strong organizational and project management experience.
  • Excellent written, verbal communication, and presentation skills required.
  • Ability to use sound judgment and discretion in handling sensitive Advancement information and issues with confidentiality and discretion.
  • Strong teamwork and interpersonal skills; ability to be adaptable, dependable and handle multiple priorities simultaneously.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of fund-raising database systems and computer software programs is highly desired.
  • Previous experience in the foodservice and hospitality industry.

Responsibilities

  • Work closely with Vice President for Development and Alumni Relations and Senior Development Officer - Corporate Relations on prospect research briefings.
  • Prepare research briefs on individual prospects and donors and industry briefings on corporate partnership prospects.
  • Procure data using various research methods to include telephone and personal interviews, database searches, internet searches, printed resources, and monitor news sources to identify new prospects and collect information on current prospects, donors, and fundraising opportunities.
  • Compile thematic research to identify new prospects whose philanthropic interests align with CIA mission and vision.
  • Collect and interpret documents, and summarize descriptive, analytical, and evaluative data on prospective and current donors in support of corporate, individual, foundation, government research and gathering activities.
  • Compile research on individual’s’ net worth, philanthropic activity, non-profit board leadership, corporate leadership and other wealth-based, publicly accessible information.
  • Prepare prospect biographical profiles or industry profiles for prospect strategy meetings.
  • Organize and upload documentation into SharePoint or other department databases.
  • Compose prospect communications and other correspondence as part of prospect strategy work.
  • Any and all other duties as assigned.
