About The Position

The Clinical Addictions Research Laboratory (CARL) was incepted in 1997 under the direction of Andrea King, PhD., Professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Neuroscience at the University of Chicago. The overarching mission of CARL is two-folded: 1) To determine factors that lead to excessive use of alcohol, tobacco, and other substances, 2) To develop more effective interventions in the treatment of substance use disorders, particularly tobacco dependence. The Research Analyst will function within a clinical research laboratory conducting human research in both laboratory and intervention studies ranging from alcohol administration, follow-up of drinking and substance use behaviors, vaping and smoking cue research, treatment studies. Staff will assist both the Principal Investigator and Study Coordinators in overseeing and coordinating laboratory operations and personnel. Strong research analytical skills, problem-solving, administrative, and organizational skills required. Database experience in Redcap preferred. Ability to train and supervise others, and perform duties within a collaborative academic environment.

Requirements

  • Minimum requirements include a college or university degree in related field.
  • Minimum requirements include knowledge and skills developed through < 2 years of work experience in a related job discipline.
  • Strong research analytical skills, problem-solving, administrative, and organizational skills required.
  • Database experience in Redcap preferred.
  • Ability to train and supervise others, and perform duties within a collaborative academic environment.

Responsibilities

  • Manage day-to-day operations: (organize and lead team meetings, manage laboratory physical space and electronic files, coordinate with administrative, support and grant staff on communications, take responsibility of protocols for safety, assist with new staff onboarding and human resources, manage time approvals).
  • Conduct research protocols: (test participants in experimental sessions, perform telephone and in-person screening interviews and eligibility determination, assist with database management, oversee staff on research progress, pacing).
  • Perform administrative duties: (supply inventory, procurement, organization, biological sample storage, shipping, contracts, submission of expenses and post-award management, and webinars).
  • Organize special projects management (assist with grant submissions, manuscripts, graphical output, mass mailings for retention in studies).
  • Maintains technical and administrative support for a research project.
  • Analyzes and maintains data and/or specimens.
  • Conducts literature reviews.
  • Assists with preparation of reports, manuscripts and other documents.
  • Maintains recruiting and scheduling research subjects; assisting with developing or amending study protocols; assisting with developing data collection tools; assisting with building databases; and providing general administrative support.
  • Has general awareness in research techniques or methods, regulatory policies and procedures, and relevant scientific field.
  • Performs other related work as needed.
