This 8-week experience focuses on designing and building applications using human-centered design principles. Interns will learn to start by understanding people—their goals, behaviors, and challenges—and use those insights to guide every design decision. The project involves designing a publications application for tracking scientific outputs such as conference papers, journal articles, and workshop publications. This application serves as a real-world case study through which students will apply user-centered design techniques from concept to prototype. The focus of this project is not just what gets built, but how and why it gets built. Working as a small, cross-functional team, interns will conduct user research, synthesize findings into insights, personas, and design requirements, explore multiple solutions, build and test interactive prototypes, and iterate based on feedback and usability evaluation.
