SCGSR - XSD - Edwards, Sarah - 5.5.26

Argonne National LaboratoryLemont, IL

About The Position

This project will focus on developing the capability to measure elasto-caloric measurements integrated with x-ray scattering at beamline 6-ID B,C. Sarah will develop on-sample thermometry sensitive to measure <0.1K changes under a slow AC driven strain cycle. The small changes of the sample temperature are correlated to electronic changes of the material such as entering a superconducting temperature or strain phase. The capability will allow future scientists to study their samples combining electronic and structural measurement capabilities.

Requirements

  • Must be 18 years or older at the time the appointment begins.
  • Currently enrolled in undergraduate or graduate studies at an accredited institution.
  • Graduated from an accredited institution within the past 3 months; or Actively enrolled in a graduate program at an accredited institution.
  • The entirety of the appointment must be conducted within the United States.

Responsibilities

  • Develop on-sample thermometry sensitive to measure <0.1K changes under a slow AC driven strain cycle.
  • Correlate small changes of the sample temperature to electronic changes of the material such as entering a superconducting temperature or strain phase.
  • Enable future scientists to study their samples combining electronic and structural measurement capabilities.
