Repair and Maintenance Assistant
About The Position
DeVry Greenhouses is hiring a motivated, organized Repair and Maintenance Assistant for its MI Operations Team. The role supports the maintenance team and greenhouse staff in keeping company locations and facilities running smoothly, and reports to the MI General Manager. The assistant helps inspect and maintain buildings and structures, troubleshoot and repair equipment and systems, maintain tools and supplies, and coordinate with external vendors when specialized repairs are needed. Work takes place in a greenhouse environment with variable humidity and temperature and involves physical maintenance tasks. Flexibility for extended hours during peak production seasons is required.
Requirements
- High school diploma.
- Previous maintenance experience, preferably in agricultural or horticultural settings.
- Proficiency in troubleshooting and repairing electrical, mechanical, and plumbing systems.
- Familiarity with greenhouse operations and equipment.
- Strong problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
- Ability to lift heavy objects and perform physical maintenance tasks.
- Flexibility for extended hours during peak production seasons.
Nice To Haves
- Technician certifications are preferred but not mandatory.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with the Operations Team to keep buildings and structures well-maintained.
- Conduct routine inspections to identify and address potential issues before they escalate.
- Help identify and fix mechanical or electrical problems.
- Under supervision, replace faulty or worn components to restore equipment functionality.
- Repair damaged facility areas, including walls, floors, and fixtures.
- Organize maintenance tools and manage supply inventory to ensure essential items are available.
- Keep workspaces clean and orderly while adhering to safety protocols.
- Ensure work complies with regulations and maintains a safe environment.
- Assist in troubleshooting electrical, plumbing, and other system issues to minimize downtime.
- Provide technical support to greenhouse staff and other departments as needed.
- Help coordinate with external vendors for specialized repairs.
