The primary function of this position is to perform advanced mechanical repairs and assembly on compact construction, aerial and allied equipment by troubleshooting and using various diagnostic equipment. Essential duties include checking the equipment and supplies required to perform the work scheduled, complying with PPE requirements, and otherwise preparing for duties. The technician uses manuals, repair manuals, parts manuals, and parts diagrams to perform independent troubleshooting and repair of construction equipment. They utilize lift trucks, overhead cranes, and other aides to lift or move parts into position to be repaired. Hand and power tools are used to remove, install, replace, re-build, repair, and test parts/equipment on construction equipment. Miscellaneous resources and computers are used to reference parts, get information about parts, and enter data into record systems. The role involves using tools to disassemble/re assemble parts or equipment; cleaning parts with rags, cleaners, and a power washer; using test equipment to make diagnostic checks; and controlling powered equipment or tools to make repairs. The technician must climb up onto, under, and into vehicles to gain access to all parts of the vehicle. Overhead hoists, lift devices, forklifts, and other aides are used to move items off the vehicle (tracks, idler wheels, blades, etc.) and then to move parts to locations for disassembly, repair, then back to the vehicle for reassembly. The position performs inspections, preventative maintenance, and repairs on engines, power train, hydraulic, and electrical components. Power washers and spray paint equipment are used to clean and paint the vehicle. Instruments and computers are used to reprogram equipment controllers.
