About The Position

Ryder is looking for a driven, road-ready sales hunter to own new business development. The Rental Sales Account Manager is a true outside sales position for someone who wants the freedom to build relationships, chase opportunity, and control their own earning potential. This role involves regular in-territory travel across a multi-city territory, including overnight trips, and requires comfort with a heavy travel schedule. The position offers a dedicated San Antonio office base for use when needed. This role focuses solely on sales, without personnel management, recruiting, or branch oversight responsibilities. The compensation includes a base salary plus uncapped commission, with a strong earning potential for first-year performers. The territory is described as hungry, wide-open, and underserved, offering significant revenue potential.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required in Marketing or 5 years equivalent job related experience
  • One (1) year or more sales experience or equivalent sales training required
  • A hunter mentality — someone energized by new business development, not just managing existing accounts
  • Outside sales or account management experience, ideally with a track record of building relationships and closing deals in the field
  • Comfort with a heavy travel schedule across a multi-city territory, including overnight trips
  • Self-starter who thrives with autonomy and doesn't need constant oversight to stay productive
  • Strong communication skills and the persistence to keep pursuing a deal until it closes
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to build strong customer relationships

Nice To Haves

  • Three (3) years or more sales experience preferred
  • One (1) year or more Industry experience preferred

Responsibilities

  • Hunt and close new rental business
  • Travel the assigned territory (San Antonio, Laredo, Corpus Christi, and the Rio Grande Valley/Pharr), spending most of the week face-to-face with prospects and customers
  • Represent Ryder's rental solutions to businesses seeking flexible truck and equipment options
  • Manage own schedule and pipeline with autonomy
  • Perform work independently with minimal supervision
  • Operate and self-drive to excel in a fast-paced environment
  • Multi-task, be highly organized, with excellent time management skills
  • Maintain a high degree of professionalism
  • Create and maintain professional relationships within all levels of the organization (peers, work groups, customers, supervisors)
  • Exhibit excellent follow-up practices
