BHM Remote Pilot Operator

SAIC•Birmingham, AL
•Onsite

About The Position

SAIC is hiring a full-time Remote Pilot Operator (RPO) for its Controller Training Solutions (CTS) team at the Birmingham International Airport ATCT/TRACON in Birmingham, Alabama. This is not a UAS, UAV, RPV, or drone pilot position. The RPO supports Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) air traffic controller training by acting as pilots and other controllers in a simulator. Using a simulated radar display and voice communication system, the RPO simulates pilot actions and communications with remote air traffic control facilities during medium- and high-fidelity training exercises. The operator receives voice commands from students, enters appropriate actions into the automated system, interprets displayed information using ATC terminology, and responds through the voice communication system using proper phraseology. Candidates must complete classroom certification, including a test on airspace and procedures, and laboratory certification demonstrating performance as an RPO on all positions. SAIC provides contractor training and related support services at FAA facilities to help prepare students to become certified air traffic controllers and support recurrent training for current controllers.
